I'm a very new LMSW who hasn’t had clinical experience and little work experience, what am I learning during clinical supervision?
Some of the topics will include professionalism, building rapport, understanding therapeutic alliance, advocacy for yourself and clients, case conceptualization, completing intake/ biopsychosocial assessments, suicide assessment (assessing for means, intent and safety planning).

Am I able to get my hours if I'm in case management and D/C planning?
Yes, although you should consider getting additional clinical practice too. You have few options: Your agency can revise your job description and you can be assign up to 5 clients to run a group/ or provide individual sessions once a week. Secondly, you can be to provide PRN (pro re nata/as needed) hospice work. Lastly, you can volunteer at an agency providing pro-bono therapy.

Can I do travel social work and stay in supervision or would I need to find a supervisor in every state?
Clinical supervision is approve for LMSWs who practices in Texas. The Board only has exceptions for military spouses.

If I'm not getting 40 hours a week of clinical hours, can I reduce supervision hours and meet for one hour?
No, clinical supervisors need to provide a minimum of 4 hours a month of supervision, whether the LMSW is practicing full-time or part-time.
